Over the years, WhatsApp has evolved from just being a simple text messaging platform to allowing users to place voice and video calls, share different types of files, engage in discussions by joining different communities, share everyday life via status, and much more. WhatsApp also recently added the option to allow users to change the WhatsApp themes for individual chats or groups, giving more options for personalization. It also gained AI powers because now you can use Meta AI and ChatGPT on WhatsApp for free.
There are so many things that you can do on WhatsApp, and now its parent, Meta, has recently added the option to add music to WhatsApp Status. This feature is similar to other Meta apps, such as Instagram, which for years have allowed users to add song snippets to their stories. However, Instagram wasn’t the first to introduce this feature, which was first seen on the now-defunct AIM and MySpace platforms. If you are also interested in learning how to add music to your WhatsApp status, then read the guide below.
Here are a few things to keep in mind
While WhatsApp has introduced the option to add music to your status, here are a few things you should keep in mind:
- Music on Status isn’t available in all countries. According to WhatsApp, the feature is yet to go live in some countries, including Brazil. It should be available shortly.
- Users can add up to 15 seconds of song on photos they wish to share as WhatsApp Status.
- The limit is 60 seconds for videos on WhatsApp Status.
- Music cannot be added to text, GIF, or voice status updates.
- Adding music to WhatsApp Status is only available on iOS and Android. Other devices aren’t supported currently.
- Music choices on WhatsApp Business might be different.
- The audio tracks’ availability might differ based on the country you are in.
With some key information out of the way, let’s see how you can add music to WhatsApp Status in the next section.
How to add music to WhatsApp Status?
- Open WhatsApp on your Android or iOS device.
- Tap on Updates at the bottom bar.
- Choose the Add Status option under the Status section.
- Choose a photo or video that you wish to share as a WhatsApp Status.
- You will see a new Music note icon at the top that animates into an equalizer, located ahead of the crop and rotate button.
- Tapping on the music note icon will show a list of tracks available in the WhatsApp Music library.
- You can search for a specific song by typing its name or its artist’s name in the search bar above.
- Once you find the song that you want to use, tap on the forward arrow button next to the song name to proceed to the edit page.
- In the audio edit page, you can select a 15-second portion of the audio track by dragging the seek bar below. The chosen part will automatically begin to play, letting you know which portion you have selected.
- Tap Done once finished.
Note that on the edit audio track page, you will have the option to select 60 seconds of a song if you upload a song of a similar length as your WhatsApp status. As mentioned earlier, your WhatsApp Status will remain end-to-end encrypted, meaning it will be visible only to your contacts or the contacts you have chosen to share your WhatsApp Status with.
Also, if you wish to know more about the song on someone else’s status, then you can tap on the song name shown at the top of the status, where you can select View Artist to learn more about the artist, but this will take you out of WhatsApp.
Make your WhatsApp status interesting
Adding music to your WhatsApp Status opens another interesting way of engaging with your contacts. You can also connect with your contacts by creating GIFs using Meta AI. If you are into some fun, you can also send fake locations to your friends on the WhatsApp platform. Plus, there is a funny way to send blank messages to your friends and keep them guessing.
