Deliveroo hopes to access new customers through drone deliveries, which it hopes will complement the existing network of delivery riders.

Deliveroo has partnered up with drone delivery firm Manna to fulfil orders in Dublin’s Blanchardstown from the air.

The popular food delivery platform Deliveroo will be conducting a test phase over the coming weeks to assess how drones can be used in suburban and harder-to-reach locations.

Deliveroo aims to unlock a new customer-base through “super-fast” drone deliveries, which it hopes will complement the existing network of delivery riders.

Manna has already completed 170,000 drone deliveries in Dublin 15 alone, it said, having kicked off a test run in the area back in 2024. The company is also expanding its services in Cork, CEO Bobby Healy announced earlier this year.

Earlier this year, Manna completed a $30m funding round, taking its total raise to $60m. Its drones fly at speeds of up to 80km/h and boasts a flight time of as little as three minutes. The company says it achieves this by avoiding road traffic.

Over the coming days, customers in a 3km radius in Blanchardstown can order via drone from eateries including Musashi, Wow Burger, Boojum and Elephant & Castle. According to Manna, customers will not be charged extra for choosing the drone delivery option.

Manna also launched similar partnerships with other food delivery platforms this year.

In January, it announced winter drone delivery testing with Wolt in Finland, while in March, it launched a new drone delivery programme with Just Eat in Dublin. Just Eat also plans to expand the relationship internationally.

“We’re excited to explore how drones can help us reach new customers, complementing our existing rider model and if successful, the prospect of expanding drone deliveries across Ireland and into other markets,” said Carlo Mocci, the chief business officer at Deliveroo.

“Air delivery is fast, clean and safe, offering a new avenue for local businesses to reach more consumers,” added Healy, who also founded Manna Air Delivery.

Earlier this month, DoorDash, which also owns the Wolt, acquired Deliveroo in a £2.9bn deal.
